A Tortoise and Dog hit New Guinness World Record as the fastest and best ball catcher!

As interesting as this could be, Purin the beagle has made it once more into the Guinness World Records by beating her own record for the number of balls caught by a dog with paws.

The Japan-based nine-year-old pooch managed to catch 14 balls in a minute, up from 11 at the last count.

And that is not all she can do - she can also skateboard, walk on two legs and skip.

Owner and companion Makoto Kumagai has had Purin since her birth and he is effusive in his praise for the pet.

"Purin is calm, happy and always eager to play. She's scared when around larger dogs, but since she lives with a cat, is more comfortable with animals her own size."

Video: Bertie Speeds Into Record Books

Bertie the tortoise has been another surprising hit for the records book.

The South African leopard tortoise has become the speediest of his species on earth, smashing a record held by Charlie from South Yorkshire since 1977.

Bertie won his place with a speed of 0.6mph that would mean he could travel 100 metres (109yds) in six minutes.

His epic achievement was accomplished at Adventure Valley in Brasside, Durham, in July last year, and is twice the speed of an average tortoise.

Owner Marco Calzini, said: "Bertie now lives in a luxury enclosure with lady friend Shelly and his certificate proudly displayed on the wall.

"To be in the book is a dream come true, a massive achievement!"

Despite his record win, Bertie remains low maintenance, deriving his high energy from his regular snack of strawberries and slow periods of grazing.

Other record-winning animals featured for the 2016 book include Franchesca from California, the two-year-old English Angora who has the longest fur on a rabbit, measuring 36.5cm (14.37in) and Purin, a nine-year-old Beagle from Japan.
