Lil Wayne and Birdman Reunite on Mannie Fresh's 'Hate'

Despite over a year of public feuding, Lil Wayne and Birdman reunited last month, on Mannie Fresh’s single “Hate.” It was a moment that, before it dropped, seemed unlikely: Even though the two spent New Years together, Wayne is still suing Cash Money, and his upcoming Tha Carter V is still shelved.

To make it happened, everything just fell into place. Mannie was working on the track with Juvenile, who’s also featured, when they decided to try to get Wayne on there, too.

“I called Lil Wayne and he was two blocks down the street at Hit Factory,” the producer told Genius. “He was like, ’Bring the song over!'”

Next, he got Birdman involved, with the label founder providing his patented sh-t-talk.

“By sheer coincidence, I wind up bumping into Baby and I was like, ’Dude, I would love if you intro-ed this song,'” he explained. “He was like, ’Send it to me, it’s done.'”

So, no, it doesn’t sound like Father and Son were in the studio together for this one — but it’s at least a step in the right direction, given the tension of the last year.

“I can see how paperwork and foolishness can destroy something,” Mannie added. “Everything is not resolved with [Birdman] and Wayne, but I overcame it by saying to them, ’We can resolve all that behind the curtain, but for now, let’s make music for the people.’ When it all started coming together, the brotherly love came out. We did the song, then, ’I wish you the best, we should do it more often.'”
